What is the Alexander Technique?

You are made up of 'what you always do'.
However, surprising as it may seem, we are completely unaware of many of these 'things we always do'. Even though many of the problems we have in our daily lives may actually be caused by this 'what we always do'…

At the heart of the Alexander Technique is the idea of being aware of and stopping the previously unnoticed 'things we do all the time' that are causing problems.

In Alexander Technique lessons, Alexander Technique teachers will help you to notice the cause of the problem - what you do all the time (habits) - and help you to stop doing it.
The habits that can be the causes of your problem may be related to movement and behaviour, or they may be emotional, the way you think and perceive things. Many of these habits are unconscious and have been acquired over time. Because they are things you 'do all the time', they are natural to you and it is not easy to notice them on your own.

By learning the Alexander Technique through lessons, you and your Alexander Technique teacher will first work on the surface problems, and then gradually get closer to the essence of the deeper problems, so that you can find clues to improve the problems you are facing. We will help you to live with more ease through learning the Alexander Technique.

For improvement of physical pain/discomfort

Chronic discomfort and pain in the neck, shoulders, lower back, hip joints and other body parts are often caused by habits that you are not aware of, and these habits have caused problems due to the continuous tension in the muscles.
Lessons will help you to recognise these habits and improve the problem.

For stress relief

When you are under chronic stress, your whole system - head, body and mind - can be in a 'state of crisis', causing physical, mental and emotional conditions such as tiredness, headaches, anxiety and irritability.

Lessons help you to calm and regulate yourself and relieve stress.

For improving posture

Posture in daily activities (e.g. standing, sitting, walking) is a habit and an indication of how you are performing them. You may already feel that your posture is not good, but it is difficult to be aware of how you are actually doing it. You may be causing problems by putting undue strain on our bodies without realising it.

Through lessons, we can help you to reflect these postures and make them more comfortable.

For improving breathing and voice

Breathing is the source of all human activities, including daily life, exercise, singing, playing instruments and speech. However, in many cases we unknowingly interfere with our natural breathing, preventing us from reaching our full potential.

Alexander Technique lessons can help you become more energetic by restoring efficient and effective breathing.

Profile

Dr. Yukihiro TAKADA

Yukihiro Takada is an Alexander Technique Teacher certified by the Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique.

Yukihiro discovered the Alexander Technique in the process of looking for a solution to movement disorder of his left little finger (focal dystonia) that occurs when playing the clarinet; He took his first lesson in autumn 2018 in Tokyo, Japan. He was shocked by the richness of the sound and the ease of playing after his first lesson and immediately decided to continue taking lessons.

In November 2020, further improvement of her finger problems and an interest in the depths of the Alexander Technique led Yukihiro to Ireland, where he attended a teacher training course at The Alexander Technique Centre, Galway, Ireland. He studied the principles and practical works of the Alexander Technique with Richard Brennan, working with people who want to improve physical ailments such as neck, shoulder, back and hip pain and sciatica; mental and emotional ailments such as anxiety, stress and trauma; breathing, speech, presentation and performances such as singing and playing the instruments.

Yukihiro completed his teacher training course in February 2024. Throughout the course, he also overcame a movement disorder of his finger. He starts working as a STAT-certified Alexander Technique teacher from April 2024.
